At Statesboro Bulloch Regional Veterinary Hospital, we believe that preventative medicine and wellness care is essential to ensure your pet lives a long and happy life.

Why Preventative Pet Care Matters

All too often pet owners wait until a problem arises before bringing their pets in to the vet, making it both difficult and expensive to treat the conditions that are affecting their pet’s health.

Because of this, our staff advocates proactive wellness care for all pets at every stage of life. This approach allows us to monitor your pet’s health over time to detect and treat any developing conditions before they become a life-threatening problem.

Preventative care also enables us to tailor a program of vaccinations and preventatives to fit your pet’s health and unique lifestyle. Your pet will always receive the personalized care he or she needs.

Nose-to-Tail Wellness Care

At Statesboro Bulloch Regional Veterinary Hospital, we recommend that your pet be seen twice a year for a complete nose-to-tail wellness exam.

During your pet’s appointment, your veterinarian will check your pet’s eyes, ears, teeth, chest, lungs, and more to evaluate his or her full body wellness.

We will also discuss your pet’s body condition score and diet to ensure that your pet is maintaining a healthy weight, and discuss options for weight management, if needed.

In addition to the exam, our vets will also run a fecal screening to check for internal parasites. Finally we will administer any vaccinations, boosters, and preventatives your pet may need to stay healthy, in accordance with his or her lifestyle and living conditions. These may include:

  • Rabies
  • Canine parvovirus
  • FIV/Feline AIDS
  • Feline leukemia
  • Kennel cough
  • Heartworm treatment
  • Flea, tick, and parasite preventatives for outdoor pets

Special Treatments

Depending on your pet’s breed, size, age, and other lifestyle factors, we may also recommend the following:

  • Special Recommendations for Dogs—A blood parasite screening is conducted once per-year for canine patients. This is included in the cost of one of bi-annual wellness visits.
  • Special Recommendations for Cats—Screening for FIV and feline leukemia is done on an occasional/as-needed basis, usually whenever a pet is going to be vaccinated against these diseases, or when necessary for a diagnosis.
  • Blood panels may be included as part of a dog or cat wellness exam, depending on age and necessity. Typically, this is done more frequently for senior pets.

If you have any questions about the wellness and preventative care for your pet, please give us a call. We will be happy to speak with you.
