SNIPS AND CLIPS: GROOMING SERVICES
Good grooming is about more than just looking pretty. In fact, regular grooming is an important part of your pet’s hygiene and overall health. Regular bathing is essential to keeping your dog’s skin and coat healthy and beautiful. Cats, as we all know, will groom themselves, but it’s true that even they will need a bubble bath now and then! Be sure to consult with your veterinarian to determine the unique grooming needs of your canine or feline companion.
Without necessary bathing, brushing, and clipping, fur may become tangled and matted, trapping pests and parasites against the skin, as well as moisture that cannot evaporate because the skin isn’t allowed to breathe. This can lead to dermatological infections and hot spots, which can impact your pet’s health and comfort.
It’s also very important to keep your pet’s nails trimmed. Trimmed nails are not only more comfortable for your pet on a day-to-day basis, but also significantly reduce the chance of infection from breakage (as well as damage to floors and upholstery in your home!). In severe cases, overly long nails can cause dogs to develop an irregular gait, eventually leading to discomfort and even skeletal and joint complications.
Grooming services may be recommended following routine exam, but only you and your veterinarian can determine if your pet is due for a bath and/or trim. If you have any questions about good grooming practices or would like to schedule an appointment with us, then please call our office anytime.
