Diagnostics

Radiology
We are thrilled to have the latest technology available in our digital radiology (x-rays). We have two radiographic units. The first is used to take dental and intraoperative films and the second takes all other films. Both units have digital technology.

Ultrasound
Ultrasound is used to visualize soft tissue structures like the intestine or liver for abnormalities.

Video Otoscopy
This is a video camera attached to a special tube that allows our veterinarians to examine your pet’s ears completely. The video otoscope allows us to treat your pet’s ears in the case of ear infections, stenotic ear canals, or other problems involving the ear and ear canal.

Endoscopy
An endoscope is a long tube with a camera on the end. We use our endoscope to see down the throat and the esophagus. It is amazing what cats and dogs can end up with down these tubes. The endoscope can take biopsies, remove foreign bodies, or simply see all is ok.

Serology
Serology is the study of serum. We use serology to do many different laboratory tests. Mainly, we look at various enzymes and electrolytes to check the health of your pet. If these enzymes are high or low they can tell us what is wrong with your pet since they can not tell us.

Hematology
Hematology is the study of blood. An examination of blood by our laboratory can tell us if your pet has an infection, anemia, or other blood disorders.

Cytology
Cytology is the study of cells. We use many different ways to study cells. When viewed under the microscope cells have a specific appearance that allows us or a pathologist to diagnose various diseases.

Histopathology
Histopathology is the study of tissue. At times a full tissue biopsy is needed for a diagnosis. These surgical, ultrasound guided, or needle biopsies are obtained and sent to an outside laboratory for a pathologist to evaluate and diagnose.

Virology/Bacteriology
Virology is the study of viruses and bacteriology is the study of bacteria. Many times when your pet is sick his/her sickness is caused by one of these germ types. Identifying this specific pathogen is critical for the treatment and cure of the disease. The method of identifying the pathogen may vary. At times the test may be run in our in house laboratory. However, certain test will be ran by an outside laboratory.
